CQ-Roll Call Group Forum: The Role of Natural Gas in the New Energy Economy

moderated by:

Morton M. Kondracke, Executive Editor, Roll Call

A recent study by the Potential Gas Committee shows that the United States has nearly 100 years’ worth of natural gas reserves — an amount that rivals Russian reserves and is the highest estimate of U.S. gas resources in 44 years. This Forum will take a 360-degree look at natural gas and the role it can play in the new energy economy, including the following topics:

• While this resource has great potential for both homes and commercial use, is there a true abundance of natural gas? Is it economical to tap?

• How do you maximize existing resources? What investment is needed to fully realize resources? What investment is needed to fully realize resources that lie mostly in the Appalachian Basin, Gulf Coast, Rocky Mountains and Alaska?"

• Does Congress have a strategy that includes natural gas in climate change policy to increase energy independence and jobs?
